Two driveways the same size can get very different quotes. What's under the concrete, what has to come out first and the finish on top all change the price.
Here's what goes into a concrete driveway quote in Woodstock and the rest of Oxford County.
What's usually in a quote
- Removing the old surface: asphalt, gravel or broken concrete, and disposal
- Excavation and base: digging down and compacting granular base
- Forms and reinforcement: rebar or mesh
- Concrete and placement: the concrete itself, plus a pump if the truck can't reach
- Finish: broom, exposed aggregate or stamped
- Control joints, curing and sealing
- Permits, if you're widening or changing the curb cut
What changes the price
Size and shape
Bigger costs more, but simple rectangles cost less per square foot than curves, flares and tight corners.
What comes out
Breaking out and hauling away old concrete costs more than removing asphalt or gravel.
Base and soil
Wet clay, soft spots or a driveway that's sunk before usually need more digging and more base. It's the part you can't see, and the part that decides how long the driveway lasts.
Finish
Broom finish costs least. Exposed aggregate costs more, and stamped and coloured concrete the most. See our finishes guide.
Access
If the truck can't get close, the concrete has to be pumped or wheeled in, which adds cost.
How to compare quotes
- How thick is the concrete, and how deep is the base?
- Is the concrete air-entrained, and what strength?
- Rebar, mesh or neither?
- Is removal, sealing and the permit included?
- What's the written warranty, and what does it cover?
